21161666 Lance Corporal Buddhaprasad Limbu 1st Battalion 7th Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Gurkha Rifles 25 October 1958 ~ 24 June 1982 Age 23
Buddhaprasad was born in Nepal on 25 October 1958 to Deoman and Chandramaya Limbu. The family lived in the village of Sakhewa, north east of Dhankuta in the eastern hills of Nepal.
This young man followed his father Deoman into the 1/7 Gurkha Rifles enlisting as a recruit in 1976. Buddhaprasad was sworn in as a rifleman in the 7th Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Gurkha Rifles on 16 August 1977.
On 24 June 1982 Buddhaprasad was killed instantly during the clean up operations post war.
At the time of his death Budhaprasad was buried with full military honours in the civilian cemetery outside Goose Green.
Budhaprasad has a grave in Aldershot Military Cemetery but it is not with those who fell at Goose Green nor Mount Longdon so when you are visiting the lads spare him a thought and pass by, perhaps leave a stone.
In 2022 Buddhi as he was fondly known by comrades was honoured with Limbu Point, the north entrance point to Chaffers Gullet on the West Falkland side of Falkland Sound.
His name lives on…

I served alongside 1/7 Gurkha Rifles in the Falklands, attached to D Coy and I knew Limbu – a good man and a good soldier. I took the photo of his funeral used in this article.
