Falklands 35 ~ Michael Vincent McHugh

24398223 Lance Corporal Michael Vincent HcHugh 3 February 1960 ~ 19 May 1982 Age 22

Michael Vincent McHugh was born in Stockport on 3 February 1960.

Michael joined the Royal Signals and at the time of Operation Corporate was with 264 SAS Signal Squadron.

First met Mick and his team of 264 signals down the lowest decks of the Hermes in the communications control room. Hadn’t realised us mere naval ratings would be sharing our space with the elite. We all soon forged a bond with Mick and his team. Always a great smile on his face, nothing would bother him, always speaking fondly of home and family. We shared a lot of laughs in those anxious times and promised once over we would meet up for a drink. Great at his job as they all were. Sadly missed always.‘ ~ Steve Regolo

In 2022 as part of the Falkland Islands 40th Anniversary Place Names Project Michael was honoured with McHugh Point, the western point of Sedge Island.
